Question: English name for gushenshuerfang? chinese herbs.?

Does anyone know the English name, or even just an alternative transliteration for this type of Chinese herbal combination? I found the name in this article: http:/ / www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ pubmed/ 12768729 but can't find it anywhere else on the web. Thanks! Thanks for your answers so far. I'm writing an article on herbs for tinnitus and my editor asked for more info on the chinese herbs I mentioned, but I can't find anything aside from that PubMed article, or where to get it. I thought someone might know an alternative name for it...whatever language. @ oldtimekid2: if you could point me toward a couple of those products you mentioned, that would be more helpful than simply telling me they exist... Thanks!

Unfortunately, there are some herbs that just don't have "English names ". There are many examples that only are known by their Asian or Latin names... Ginkgo Biloba, Dong Quai, Echinacea, and the list goes on. None of those are English names, but they have been around long enough that we know them in our English-speaking cultures. That being said, the only hits on Yahoo and Google for Gushenshuerfang are only PubMed and other similar websites that are publishing that study. If you are looking to cure Tinnitus, you could contact PubMed and/ or the Institute of Otorhinolaryngology (where the study was done according to the listing you gave) to see what species it is or what other herbs are available that would have a similar/ same impact. Otherwise, there are products on the market that help to support the delicate tissues of the ear (I can only think of a few brands, but there are some), but most all of those can take several months because it takes the body time to regenerate and repair those tissues. Good luck and I hope I helped! [edit]: There are a few brands that have ear health products by all sorts of different names (Ear Essentials, Ear Health, etc) and many of them have nutrients that help increase circulation to the head (Bilberry, Ginkgo, etc... but some use other formulas). There are only two brands I've seen that specifically address Tinnitus and that's RingStop and Lipo-Flavonoid (both of which you could probably find in your local health food store). Feel free to E-mail me if you have more questions.

Like Oldtimekid said thats not a very common formula in western countries. Are you looking for a treatment for tinnitus? If you are do you know what the cause is? Different causes require different treatments. If you do have Tinnitus you probably already know the difficulty of finding an effective treatment and the long searches but there are some things that can be effective including some other chinese formulas apart from the one you named(presuming its not from a cause that needs surgery) but first its important to know what its cause is eg: due to noise exposure, Benign Intracranial Hypertension, Tumor, Atherosclerosis, Intracranial Vascular Lesions, Middle Ear Effusion, Venous Hum, highbloodpressure, Twisted Arteries, Arnold-Chiari, medication induced, Meniere's, TMJ dysfunction
