Could a home equity loan be enough?
My husband and I bought our first home for $325,000. We are considering in the next 2 years doing some major upgrades, like 1 converting the carport to a 1 car garage2 adding a 10x25 addition on the back of the house that would house a new master bathroom, walk in closet and expand the kitchen, using middle to high grade finishes3 finish the remainder of the basement 25ftx24ft . It has concrete floors and cement floors nowDo you think we could do it all for $75,000? I know we need to get an estimate from a contractor, but is even a realistic number? Other homes in the area that have these finished spaces are selling for $425,000 . We'd like to add either a half bath or a full bath in the basement, pretty basic. Nothing high end.We do have existing running water in the basement. Washer and dryer are there.What about if we just refinished the basement and the carport, without doing the addition?
Refinishing vs new hardwood floors home equity?
ok...our hardwood floors need refinishing or we need to get new ones...considering the major difference in cost between the two. Which one would be a better investment...considering the price of between 600 for refinishing or 3500 for new floors.....we want to build equity but i was told that by refinishing you can make them look brand spankin new...so i almost want to go that route because if we got new ones, i'd want to rip out the old ones..so as not to decrease the room size. Also if anyone knows...b c of the winter, the floors now have cracks so if we refinish, shoudl we wait till the summer when the spaces have closed up? if so, when next winter comes, will they space out and crack the polyurithane?

My husband and I have finally decided it's time to put up a fence. We've been in our new home now for a little over a year and the backyard has pretty much been forgotten about. No one wants to go out there and have all the neighbors staring at us. Plus we've promised to get the kids a swimming pool. After looking at several fencing options we've decided that we really like the white vinyl privacy fences the best. They also match the rest of the homes vinyl siding and porch. Unfortunately, due to the size of our yard, we're looking at just over $10000.00 to get it done. We're hoping to justify some of the cost that this will eventually help us gain some additional equity in the home once of course the housing market gets better again. Are we right? Do you think this will increase our property value in the long run?We definitely plan on living here for a long time, at least 10 years or more. Thanks
